WASTE VALORISATION
We turn waste into value
The activities of selection and treatment have as its main purpose the development of the different materials that make up the "waste" by recycling or recovery of these and subsequent reuse in economic activities such as Secondary Raw Materials .
Refuse Derived Fuel
Part of the waste residues is transformed – in specific waste plants – into RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel), primarily for industrial use (cement plants, rice mills, etc) thanks to its high heating value. Depending on the cases, waste is processed in waste-to-energy plants where RDF is turned into electricity or heat. The Kyoto Protocol recognises that such renewable energy source aids to reduce global greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. The waste that is not usable even for the production of RDF is initiated to final disposal in landfills, completing the cycle of waste proposed by Green Up. Waste Italia owns and operates renewable energy plants generating electricity burning landfill gas.

Biogas, energy from waste
The residue from the treatment, that can not be recovered in any way or retrained, is used for producing electricity from biogas released during its disposal. In many Green Up's sites there are biogas plants that produce the equivalent energy to give electricity to a town of 43,000 people.
